2010 Calendar of events

You will see that most of the favourite events from previous years have been retained but there are a few changes. I have also tried to make the prices as attractive as possible in these difficult times, but hopefully at the same time slightly improved the choice of hotels, particularly in Scotland and Ireland, where we will be trying some new places for the first time and re - visiting some we found agreeable last year. Also on the longer events I have tried to reduce the daily mileage a little, where possible, to help keep the fuel bills manageable, and also to make the events a little more relaxed. Having found some nice hotels it makes sense to have a little more time to appreciate them.

There are two completely new events and some changes to incorporate customer suggestions in other events.

This year’s Scottish event includes the Solway South West, The Classic Tour of Mull and the West Highlands Tour. The Solway and Mull events run together with the option of carrying on for the Highlands Tour making a 12 night event. Each part can be entered separately however. The Mull event follows similar lines to previous years but in slightly more relaxed format with two nights at the charming 4 star Hunters Quay Hotel in Dunoon and the usual 2 nights on Mull. The last night will be at Ballachulish, but the actual finish will be at Bridge of Orchy after the run through Glen Coe and Rannoch Moor.

The West Highlands Tour will start here and return to Ballachulish (by a different route) before heading north the following day. The first part of the route will be familiar from previous Scottish Tours as we make for Mallaig and the ferry for Skye before heading further north in to new territory north of Ullapool, and as far as the north coast of Scotland.

The Northumbria/Scottish Borders Tour, will start from Kendal once again but there will be two days based at Bamburgh at our hotel in the shadow of the impressive castle. This will give us more time to visit some more of the areas attractions and drive some more scenic routes.

The High Roads Tour starts in the Midlands before two days in Derbyshire giving us more time to explore this scenic area. The next two nights will be spent at a hotel in the south lakes with Saturday spent touring the Yorkshire Dales. Sunday will be optional with the opportunity to stay on and watch, or take part in, the local club’s Devils Own Classic Rally.

The East of England Tour is a little shorter this year but will start near Rugby and incorporate the Rutlandshire route used on previous High Roads Tours, then use the Lincolnshire /Fenland route from this years tour in reverse, before venturing into new territory in Suffolk and Constable country.

Finally, there is the Autumn in Eden Tour which will be similar to previous years but hopefully based at a new more centrally located hotel which will open up some new routes both in the Lakes and the Eden Valley/Pennines. An update on this tour has been added to the Gallery page, please check it out for more information.

The all new events are; The Lakes ‘n' Dales 'n Moors Tour and The GWR Tour.

The first is a combination of tried and tested routes in the Lake District and the Dales combined with some of the moorland routes used on the East of England Tour this year. This is in response to requests from several customers who live ‘way down south’ and on the continent, who have intimated that it wasn’t viable for them to do a Lakes or Dales weekend as it was so too far to travel for just the weekend. Therefore I hope a five day event will be more appealing to them.

Similarly the GWR Tour is in response to my northern customers asking for something in Devon or Cornwall. GWR is obviously a play on words with the Great Western Railway and the route will stay within GWR territory whilst starting not too far from the Midlands or north of England.

I hope there is something there that appeals to everyone and look forward to seeing you in 2010. If you would like detailed itineraries for any of the above –
or have any suggestions for something completely new, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
